I have had a glimpse into coupon mania.
This afternoon I went with a master couponist (that’s my own, made up title - in case you were wondering) and discovered my basic “cut a coupon, get a discount” shopping is small potatoes when you get serious.
We walked out of the store with six bottles of conditioner, three razors, two caramels, a Zyrtec and rainchecks for Motrin PM and Bayer aspirin paying about $3 and accumulating $30 in CVS store cash.
CVS paid us to take products home.
I don’t know exactly how it happened but I saw it with my own eyes and I now know it can be done. I understand a website called Bargain Believer.com can help and I’m going to spend some quality time figuring out this coupon game.
When my friend was clipping the coupons and pulling things from her crazy filing system of coupons I admit, I had some doubts about her sanity. I obediently cut out coupons and watched her carefully organize them in her coupon folder, answered that I liked ice cream when she asked if I wanted free ice cream with a $2 coupon, and nodded as though I understood when she told me she gets free toothpaste all the time and I’ll never pay for toothpaste again.
I repeat, I don’t know exactly what happened but I saw it with my own eyes and I now know it can be done.
In other news, Uno has learned to roll her eyes and Dos caught a frog today. What else could a mom ask for?
I’m starting to get clammy hands at the thought of incorporating all your ideas into my 100th post. In fact, I suspect I’m going to be writing a snarky 100th post and then elaborating on your questions in posts to follow. But I’m loving putting all the planning pressure on you – so if you have a topic suggestion for the 100th post, please leave it in the comments. As I said before, I promise to discuss every suggestion in 600 words or less.

We have a wonderfully unique collection of fabrics and we tailor them to the highest standards of the industry. Fabrics are flow-matched (not just matched) to show the full uninterrupted pattern on the item, a trademark of high end upholstered furniture. Welts (cording) are cut diagonally on the pattern, creating an appealing accent on the lines of the item. Our dealers are so confident in our craftsmanship that they sometimes send us C.O.M. (customer’s own material) for us to cut, sew and upholster on their orders.

Our Custom Options:

We truly are special order specialists. Since we build our own frames, stock all our own fabrics, cut each item one at a time, and because we are willing to make what you want, we can create unique pieces for your home that reflect your own tastes. We offer most styles in several standard sizes (chair, chair-and-a-half, settle, sofa), and we can make custom lengths (including extra-long sofas) in some frame styles. You can choose the leg finish on most items with exposed wood. We have many seat cushion options. We can apply several fabrics on one item; just tell us what you want where.

Our Frames:

We build our own frames. We know if the frame is not strong, the piece will not serve the customer well for very long. To be certain our frames will stand the test of time, we engineer our frames from select hardwoods and hardwood laminates. All four corners of the frame are secured by corner braces to keep the frames square and strong. Legs (other than decorative legs) are built into the frame for strength. Nobody builds a better frame than Johnston Benchworks.

Our Spring Construction:

Johnston Benchworks builds seat spring systems the way the best furniture makers do, using 8-way hand-tied coil springs. Heat-tempered heavy gauge double-cone coil springs are fastened to a strong webbing material covering the bottom of the frame, reinforced with steel bands. These individual springs are tied together by hand with tough polyester rope to form a spring network that is soft enough for a child to feel the benefit of the spring action yet strong enough to carry a large person without bottoming out. Then we lay a synthetic fiber pad over the top of the coil springs network and cover it with a neutral, nonabrasive decking material.

Our Seat Cushions:

Our standard seat cushion is composed of an environmentally-friendly polyurethane foam that gives initial softness and deep support, with soft fiber on the top and bottom sewn in a protective ticking fabric. Each seat cushion is engineered to best suit the frame style, but if you wish, you can change the cushions to Spring-Down, Spring-Fiber or other optional cushion constructions for a reasonable up charge.

One of the first purchases I made after joining the ranks of working professionals was a killer sectional sofa. Why a couch first? Several reasons:

My dad always kept our house furnished with the most terribly uncomfortable couches in the history of mankind, and I vowed to be different.
I had a brand new apartment furnished with little more than a few comfy pillows and a TV.
Chicks dig cool couches… right?

I thus avoided any interest.
Although I avoided paying interest I could have better leveraged the deal by following a few simple rules before rushing into the purchase.
Here are some considerations before borrowing interest free:

Don’t borrow more than you could pay cash for. Using the interest free financing as a free ticket to spend will get you into trouble fast, so make sure you only spend what you could afford to pay in cash. If you have no cash saved consider saving before you buy. Having the cash saved acts as a hedge against job/income loss.
Be organized and knowledgeable. Become intimately familiar with the terms of your purchase and pay careful attention to the details of the “interest free” period. Know how long you have before interest kicks in, and whether or not you will be charged interest on the entire purchase amount after the promotional period ends – regardless of amounts owed. Deferred billing programs can be tricky, and knowledge is your friend.

It was March 1912, and a man named John Lane had purchased a box plant in Altavista, Virginia. His son Ed Lane, twenty-one at the time and with little manufacturing experience, was encouraged by his father to try his hand at starting a chest factory in the newly acquired plant. Raspberry Napoleons

Ingredients:
* 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
* 1/3 cup chocolate pudding
* 2 cups fresh raspberries
* Whipped cream and chocolate curls

Directions:
* Separate dough into 8 triangles. Cut each triangle in half into 2 triangles. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375°F 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to cooling rack. Cool completely.
* Spread half of the pudding over eight triangles; top with half of the raspberries. Repeat layers. Garnish with whipped cream and chocolate curls.

Yield: 8 servings.

Everyone knows that the “dog days of summer” occur during the hottest and muggiest part of the season. Webster defines “dog days” as... 1 : the period between early July and early September when the hot sultry weather of summer usually occurs in the northern hemisphere
2 : a period of stagnation or inactivity
But where does the term come from? Why do we call the hot, sultry days of summer “dog days?”
In ancient times, when the night sky was unobscured by artificial lights and smog different groups of peoples in different parts of the world drew images in the sky by “connecting the dots” of stars. The images drawn were dependent upon the culture: The Chinese saw different images than the Native Americans, who saw different pictures than the Europeans. These star pictures are now called constellations, and the constellations that are now mapped out in the sky come from our European ancestors.
They saw images of bears, (Ursa Major and Ursa Minor), twins, (Gemini), a bull, (Taurus), and others, including dogs, (Canis Major and Canis Minor).
The brightest of the stars in Canis Major (the big dog) is Sirius, which also happens to be the brightest star in the night sky. In fact, it is so bright that the ancient Romans thought that the earth received heat from it. Look for it in the southern sky (viewed from northern latitudes) during January.
In the summer, however, Sirius, the “dog star,” rises and sets with the sun. During late July Sirius is in conjunction with the sun, and the ancients believed that its heat added to the heat of the sun, creating a stretch of hot and sultry weather. They named this period of time, from 20 days before the conjunction to 20 days after, “dog days” after the dog star.

“Don’t paint a small room a dark color.” A deep, rich color in a small room can be a great

Company Overview

It was March 1912, and a man named John Lane had purchased a box plant in Altavista, Virginia. His son Ed Lane, twenty-one at the time and with little manufacturing experience, was encouraged by his father to try his hand at starting a chest factory in the newly acquired plant. Since the Lanes didn't know how successful their new venture was going to be, they didn't want to put their name on it, so they incorporated the little company as the Standard Red Cedar Chest Company, with John Lane as President and Ed Lane as Vice President and General Manager. From cedar chests, Lane expanded to occasional tables in 1951, case goods in 1956, and accent pieces in 1965.

In 1972, Lane bought a small reclining chair company in Tupelo, Mississippi named Action Industries. Action Industries was founded in 1970 by Bo Bland and Mickey Holliman. Action sustained tremendous growth through gains in market share and product diversification over the next 20 years becoming a major force in the upholstered furniture industry. Today, the wood and upholstered divisions have become Lane Home Furnishings. Decorating for Spring When the snow melts and the first crocus begin to bloom, you know it's time to start decorating for spring. When you think spring, think nature, charm, and change from dark colors to bright colors and you'll be on the right track. Adding something from nature always puts the season in perspective. Twigs of forsythia, pussy willow or bulb flowers are the perfect accent. Use your favorite pitcher or vase for the twigs; for the bulb flowers try using the whole plant, either fresh or silk in a beautiful piece of crockery or in a terra cotta pot. Along the nature theme, bring out all of the bunnies, birds or baby animal collections you have. If your items are of the same size and shape, try elevating a few of the items with books (children's' books would work especially well). Putting Easter or spring books in a plate rack or standing them up on a tabletop in front of these collections would make a charming table scape. Along with our collections, spring is the time for lighter, brighter colors. Shades of pink, yellow or lime green will put you in the spring frame of mind. Consider a glass bowl or beautiful platter with a spring colored candle in the middle, surrounded by pastel colored glass pebbles. Look for new accessories of pillows and table runners to liven up your rooms. Also consider trading out a darker, wintry looking rug for a brighter "spring colored" rug. With all of these changes, walking into your "new" room will be like a breath of fresh spring air!
